{"id":29,"date":"2010-05-16T20:47:31","date_gmt":"2010-05-17T00:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/?p=29"},"modified":"2010-05-16T20:47:31","modified_gmt":"2010-05-17T00:17:31","slug":"multi-language-keyboards-yuck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/?p=29","title":{"rendered":"Multi-language Keyboards &#8211; yuck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m working on an HP Pavilion DV6 laptop for a family member.\u00a0 Since we&#8217;re in Canada (or possibly as likely because this is a big box vendor who doesn&#8217;t want to stock multiple versions) we get stuck with the multi-language keyboard that, frankly, sucks.\u00a0 It has, get this, <em>two <\/em>backslash\/pipe keys one of which takes up half the space usually reserved for the left <em>shift<\/em> key.\u00a0\u00a0 Then it takes <em>half<\/em> the Enter key and replaces it with the <em>other<\/em> backslash\/pipe key which has been moved from <em>above<\/em> the Enter key on the far right.\u00a0\u00a0 At least I really <strong>hope<\/strong> that the English-French keyboard is the reason.\u00a0 Otherwise, someone should be fired for letting this abomination be put on the market.\u00a0 This keyboard makes it just about impossible to type &#8220;normally&#8221;.\u00a0 I think that a) you can get the US keyboard that is &#8220;normal&#8221; but b) it would probably cost about CDN$100 and would void your warranty.<\/p>\n<p>The sad thing is that I actually like this laptop.\u00a0 The screen is big enough &#8211; but not too big.\u00a0 The CPU is fast enough &#8211; but not so hot as to melt your lap (and only your lap if you&#8217;re lucky!).\u00a0 There isn&#8217;t so much add-on junk software that you need to re-install the OS.\u00a0 It is light enough to carry around from room to room &#8211; in fact, it seems to be the same weight as the old Dell D820 I use for work (and will continue to until they pry it from my cold dead hands or they have something I like &#8211; the D820 just plain works) which is only a Core Duo.<\/p>\n<p>For me, that keyboard would be a deal breaker!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m working on an HP Pavilion DV6 laptop for a family member.\u00a0 Since we&#8217;re in Canada (or possibly as likely because this is a big box vendor who doesn&#8217;t want to stock multiple versions) we get stuck with the multi-language &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/?p=29\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-29","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=29"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=29"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=29"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.pelleys.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=29"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
